Engaged... now what?

In case you haven't noticed... I'm engaged!

I've been rockin' a new left hand sparkler for almost FOUR months now. Time is definitely flying and the clock is ticking. I've been on cloud 9 for these past 16 weeks and have forgotten to start planning a wedding!

I read somewhere that the first thing to do is to set the date. I also read that the number one question we would be asked is "so, when's the big day?" or "do you guys have a date yet?"... that was definitely NO LIE!!! Yes, setting the date is obviously important but we couldn't blindly pick a day without seeing if the venue we wanted was available. This whole planing thing is seriously no joke!! Just kidding, things haven't been complicated at all.

Dream up your style and pick your location. This was one of the top things suggested by theknot to help kick off the wedding planning. I'm the type of girl that has been planning her wedding ever since she was a little girl, so let's just say this "initial step" was not hard.

Set your budget, Book a venue (and set your date). These were a bit more difficult. Al though most girls dream of that fairytale wedding, we have to be realistic and smart with those huge purchases.
Draft a guest list. We both have huge families and a long list of friends. We would love to share our day with all of our loved ones, so this step is a work in progress.
Chose your wedding party. This was less complicated for Eric and I. We are surrounded by amazing family and friends and, shortly after getting engaged, knew exactly who would stand beside us on our big day.

I know those are just some of the first steps to this whole process and there are many, many other things to do. I have found my husband-to-be, the most important part of wedding planning, so I figured everything else will hopefully fall into place. We are enjoying the process as we go and can't wait for the next few months.

Leadership Institute

Networking is a valuable way to expand your knowledge and learn from the success of others. There are many great organizations to get involved with, one of them being National Hispanic Professional Organization (NHPO).
I’ve had the privilege of participating in their Leadership Institute (class X111) for the last six months and finally graduated this past Thursday, August 13, 2015.

The goal of the Leadership Institute is  “to strengthen communities, through educational initiatives and develop professionals with the skill sets, knowledge and opportunities necessary to be more successful, effective and have a positive influence on their communities, through volunteerism and non-profit board participation.”

I have gained great skills, experience, friends and exposure and have met great individuals and leaders. I am thankful for the opportunity and for the support of my family and friends.

If you’re interested in in being a part of the Leadership Institute, interviews are taking place now. You can find the application here

Until next time,

First official "wedding purchase"

Have you ever wondered what your first “wedding purchase” would be? My journey to the altar is officially underway and I have made my first official “purchase” for the big day. I guess this is not something everyone thinks about but I always secretly wondered what mine would be. Turns out, it’s not at all what I would have ever imagined.

If your guess was shoes… you guessed right. I have no idea what my dress will look like but I’m ecstatic to have my shoes. Most brides would imagine it makes more sense to find the dress first, but I figured why not do it the other way around?

I want to leave a little surprise factor so I won’t give it all away just yet, I’ll just add that they are the perfect color and absolutely perfect for me. Shoes have always been a "thing" for me so I guess I should have seen this purchase coming.

I'll leave you with a quote perfect for this post.. until next time!!

Frenchie Friday

Let me introduce you to the cutest puppy out there. His name is Sir Theodore Costanza and he is the coolest French Bulldog around. Okay I might be a little biased since he belongs to me but seriously, how cute is he??

Sir Theodore is currently 8 months old.

My boyfriend (now fiancé) and I were on the hunt for the perfect pup about a year ago. We debated on a few breeds but decided that a French bulldog was perfect for us. Frenchies make great companion for single pet-owners as well as families with young children.

Because of his stubborn nature, Sir Theodore requires a bit of patience, especially during training, but he is very intelligent, affectionate, and eager to please.

Stay tune for more pictures and stories about my little Frenchie, I'll be posting about him on Fridays. In the mean time, feel free to follow his adventures on Instagram. You can find him as Sir_Theodore_Costanza

I'll leave you with more pictures of my little fur baby.

The night I said YES.

First comes love and then comes marriage, but in between something VERY important... the proposal!
Our love started out as a friendship about seven years ago and blossomed into something incredible. On Thursday April 30, 2015 my very best friend got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Eric had been planning this for months and I, of coarse, had no idea. I had a hunch that he was getting ready to propose sometime this year (or at least I hoped he did) but did not know when or how he would do it.

About a month before the proposal Eric informed me about an important company dinner coming up and that it was very important that we attend. I thought it was a little odd that it was on a Thursday night but I didn’t put too much thought into it. The weekend before the “company dinner” Eric wanted to buy a new suit and kept asking me what I was going to wear, he even suggested to me wearing certain outfits, which he rarely does. Again, I didn’t think anything of this I just thought he really wanted us to look good for this important “dinner”. We finally get to the “boss’ house” where the “company dinner” was taking place and a “co- worker” of Eric’s opens the door and greets us. We approach the third floor and I’m starting to wonder where all the people are at, this was a dinner party after all. He quickly tells us that everyone is at the rooftop patio and we made it just in time to eat.

As we approached the patio I start hearing a beautiful song being played by a string duo and realized it was too quite for a dinner party. We took a few steps closer to the door that led to the patio and I was blown away by what I saw. I literally took a step back and took a second to process everything, it was at that moment that I finally realized what I was walking into. There were candles set up all around us and the beautiful Houston skyline was the backdrop, it was perfect.

For a moment, the rest of the world stood still, only Eric and I existed. As we held hands I could feel how nervous he was. He told me a few words as he gazed into my eyes then got down on one knee. I had always dreamt of that moment ever since I was a little girl but this went beyond my expectations. There are no words big enough to properly describe such an amazing moment. As I wiped my tears and took that beautiful moment in, he pointed at someone hiding in the corner. I was so into the moment that I did not realize the whole thing had been captured by our friend from Chris Gilleo Photography. We took a few pictures then Eric insisted that we go down for dinner.

I thought the surprises were over but, little did I know, I was about to walk into another big moment. We walked down to the dinning area where I soon found my family and friends waiting to congratulate us. Thank you to EVERYONE (present or not) who made this day possible and soooo special! I will never forget that moment we walked through that door and saw both of our families and friends.

After more tears, hugs and pictures we all sat down and had an amazing dinner prepared by a local chef Eric had hired. The food was incredible and the service the catering company provided was perfect. It was so special to be able to share such a big moment with all of them, it was actually what I had always wanted.

Eric and I had our special moment alone but we were able to involve loved ones as well. I couldn’t have planned a better proposal myself, it was absolutely amazing.. he nailed it. What started off as a regular workday ended up being, so far, one of the happiest days of my life.

Eric puts my happiness on same level as his and reminds me everyday of why I fell in love with him. They say the real power of a man is in the size of the smile of the woman sitting next to him; he sure knows how to keep me smiling and happy. I thank God every day for blessing me with such an incredible man. I’m excited to embark on this next chapter of our lives… let the wedding planning begin!!!
